The Road to Pilates

The Road to Pilates

I have a confession to make – I am obsessed and ever so slightly in love – with Pilates!    I resisted for such a long time, I thought it would be too easy, too boring, too slow – in fact pointless.  Then I got injured twice one year apart - mildly by falling off a bike and down a snowy mountain more seriously.  Physio & Pilates nursed me back & kept me strong.

I had started regularly performing Pilates – trying a variety of teachers – each one giving something different. (the best one, graciously took me into her class and offered endless advice- thank you Harri Angell.  I thoroughly recommend her books too.)

Then I got qualified - a long, challenging and in depth process that perfectly complements my 25 years of teaching experience in dance and fitness.  I was too busy to start teaching immediately, but then came lockdown.   Already teaching a fusion class online – Supple Strength. I found myself putting more and more Pilates content in and so now I am offering a pure Pilates class too.  I am so excited to show you how beneficial it can be. Although kind to backs it can also be challenging, you will gain strength, lengthen muscles and increase flexibility.

It really is for everyone, men, women, any age. Over time you will feel and see a difference.

Joseph Pilates always said that he was 50 years ahead of his time and predicted the sedentary desk bound lives many now lead.   He saw that posture would be compromised and that his precise, slow & controlled movements could help address postural imbalance in the body.

So why my class?

Here’s the thing; through Pilates I will teach you how to balance your body & like I did you will discover a discipline that complements any other exercise you take.  I am a normal body shape; fit, healthy & lean enough; strong not skinny. So I know you will want achievable and realistic goals. I know when to adjust and adapt as well as when to challenge and guide you to explore.

You will need an exercise mat. Optional are a thin Pilates or Yoga block (or small cushion), exercise band and small hand weights. We are mostly on the Mat, its a slow and controlled class all the way through which can also feel relaxing.

Should you start online?  If you are uninjured, take gentle or moderate exercise already and/or have tried Pilates or Yoga before then yes go ahead.  If you have specific injury or need some extra confidence then I would suggest some 1-1 or smaller group live sessions first.

I would love you to join me and fall in love too……… 6pm Wednesdays, online.  In a 1- 1 in my lovely garden or on Wednesdays in August in Marlow in a small group outdoor session. We will be confident to move inside for classes again in September. But why wait till then?..........................See you on the mat.
